National High Five Day

For all of you who had bad parents growing up and have not yet heard of National High Five Day (the third Thursday of every April), I have come to enlighten you. As you might suspect, it takes more than one man to execute a high five, so I enlisted my two friends (and expert high-fivers) Ty (of Spicy Magellan fame) and Mike (another very special guy).

Before National High Five Day, these two undergrads were overtired, overworked, and they were all like

Two boys in desperate need of a good high-fivin'

Once midnight of April 21st, the third Thursday of April 2005 began, the high-fiving began. Things started off at a nice, leisurely pace. This first high five, the Laid Back High Five, is the equivalent of stretching in the high five world. Watch as Mike and Ty casually slap hands in the hall.

Now the boys were really getting into it. I dared Ty, "I bet you can't high five Mike whilst gliding gracefully through the air". He responded, "Oh yeah! I bet I can!". It turns out we were both right. As this next movie shows, Ty was indeed able to execute an airborn high five, but if you listen closely you can hear him sprain both his ankles on the landing.

Ty had to go upstairs to get a Band-aid while Mike and I stayed behind and gave about 50 people some really, really good high fives. We were waiting around when we heard Ty come running down the stairs. Mike, due to the excellent reflexes and quick feet he developed dancing for Carl's videos, did not waste the opportunity.

By this point in the article, you may be thinking "It's a shame that this wonderful high fiving cannot continue all day long. I mean, you can't high five somone when you're sleeping or eating or taking a shower, right?" WRONG!!!

Ty, a robot at heart, has always been known for his acrobatic maneuvers. So, naturally he could not resist combining two of his favorite things - the high five and the wall jump (he likes to sing as well I guess).

After a little reflection, Ty realized he would have preferred "so everyone can hear" instead of "then you drink yourself some beer", so here is the High Five Day Song remix.

Note: this version has yet to be recorded, but Ty hasn't been sleeping much lately so it's only a matter of time before he starts singing again (we all remember Ty singing, right?).

And there you have it, the chronicles of National High Five Day here at Hayden West. Never underestimate the power of a high five. As you can see, just a few hours of high-fiving has changed Ty and Mike's lives forever.
